Loomly is kicking off 2025 strong with a game-changing duo designed to help you save time and effort on content creation. Social media marketers often find themselves rewriting similar posts for different clients, pages, or groups. For example, how many times have you rephrased a “Happy New Year” post for multiple clients?
With Custom Fields and Calendar Groups, you can cut your content creation time in half and turn one written post into multiple tailored versions in just a few seconds.
Before we get into the details on how to leverage these two features, watch this video to familiarize yourselves with what Custom Fields and Calendar Groups do for you.
Manage all your social media accounts in one place.
Craft, schedule, & auto-post content to all your social channels, then track analytics and manage interactions from a single, easy-to-use dashboard.
What are Custom Fields and Calendar Groups
Custom Fields in Loomly act as content placeholders that allow you to create posts with customized details such as phone numbers, addresses, websites, names, and more. Instead of manually adding this information each time in Post Builder, you can create as many Custom Fields as needed, giving them a unique value to individual calendars.
Creating a Custom Field is simple:
- Head to your Account Settings (or Calendar Settings if you’d like to create Custom Fields for only one calendar)
- Click Custom Fields, then select, “Create New Custom Field”
- Give your Custom Field a name, and select the Calendar(s) you wish to use this Custom Field
- Enter its value for each selected calendar, then click “Save Changes”
On the flip side, Calendar Groups help you organize and easily replicate posts across multiple calendars. You can group calendars by brand, client, team, project, location, account manager, or any other category that suits your needs. Note that Calendar Groups are user-specific, meaning each team member must create their own groups.
Here’s how you can create your own Calendar Groups:
- Head to Account Settings
- Click Calendar Groups
- Enter a name for your Calendar Group, then select calendars to be included in this group
- To edit your Calendar Groups, simply click the pencil icon to make further changes
Pro Tip: Archive unused calendars by prefixing their group name with “Z” (Eg. “Z Hide” or “Z Archive”) This keeps them organized at the bottom of the list.
How do Custom Fields and Calendar Groups work with each other
Custom Fields and Calendar Groups are both powerful features individually, however, when used correctly and combined, they can help you save a ton of time when creating content.
Auto-populate tedious details across all calendars
Imagine creating a holiday closure post for multiple clients, each with unique holiday hours. Instead of manually entering this information for each post, you can use Custom Fields to input each client’s holiday hours. Then, create a generic post in Post Builder, insert the relevant Custom Fields, then duplicate the post across calendars or Calendar Groups, automatically updating the details with client-specific information.
Maintain organization and accuracy
Custom Fields and Calendar Groups keep your projects organized and error-free. For Custom Fields, you can update core information like hours or locations in one place without needing to edit every post. On the other hand, Calendar Groups can structure your calendars by client, project, or team for a clear overview of your content strategy.
Stay organized and save time on content creation with Custom Fields and Calendar Groups
Now with Custom Fields and Calendar Groups, you can save time and effort on content creation while keeping your content consistent and organized.
